Quintessa Rutherford 2019
Biodynamic from the very beginning, a wide variety of soils, individualised vinification of each individual parcel - the bullet points on vinification alone suggest that the "Rutherford' is a wine in an absolutely exceptional class. 100 points from Wine Enthusiast and 99 from James Suckling confirm this impression. James Suckling particularly praises the ultra-fine tannins and the earthy, walnut-infused spiciness of the blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot and Carmenère as well as 1% Petit Verdot. The diversity of the varieties and the deep minerality of the wine are certainly also a direct result of the many types of soil on which the grapes grow: gravel and clay, boulders and gravel, volcanic ash. A "winemaker's masterclass', as the Wine Enthusiast aptly called it.
