Caiarossa Rosso Toscana IGT 2018
Caiarossa is located south of Pisa, nestled in a picture-book landscape. In addition to around 40 hectares of vineyards, the biodynamic winery also has 34 hectares of forest, 20 hectares of wild herb meadows and 6 hectares of olive trees. The fact that many things are done differently at Caiarossa is also evident in the Rosso cuvée, which is unusual by Tuscan standards. The 2018 wine is 30 per cent Syrah, 28 per cent Cabernet Franc and 16 per cent Merlot. The remaining quarter is made up of 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Sangiovese and 2% Grenache. The wine is fermented in concrete and large oak barrels and matured in French barriques. Black fruit, spices, tar, liquorice and soft tannins create an elegant red with plenty of backbone.
