Vintage Ports take a very long time to reach their tertiary aromas. At the beginning, the fruit predominates, the tannins are still somewhat firm and the sweetness is still very present. As the wine matures in the bottle, the aromas gradually harmonize and the more subtle notes of a mature red wine emerge. Here we have an already matured port from 2003, with fine ripe Amarena cherry, blackcurrant and South American fine chocolate dominating the aromas. And all with the elegance and finesse typical of Fonseca...wonderful!

The House of Fonseca was founded in 1815 by João dos Santos Fonseca. In 1820, he joined forces with Francisco José Gomes Monteiro, the scion of an important Portuguese merchant family, in order to be able to invest more capital in export markets, which was very successful from the outset.
