Mount Mary Vineyard
The Yarra Valley, in southeast Australia, east of Melbourne. In the 1850s, Swiss settlers recognised the climatic parallels to Burgundy and Bordeaux and planted the first vines. The Mount Mary winery has been here since 1972.
Vines over 50 years old with more than 30 different clones form the core of this Pinot Noir. This special blend, combined with a rather short mash fermentation by today's standards, produces a relatively light-coloured yet intense red full of fruit. Don't be fooled by the colour. This Pinot offers plenty of wild berries, cherries and a little quince, while the 25% French barriques in first passage add perfectly dosed wood spice. The 2020 vintage of the Mount Mary Pinot enchants with intense primary fruit, which is now being complemented by secondary flavours step by step. Together with the ultra-fine tannins, this results in a highly elegant, sensationally fresh blend with remarkable length on the palate.
