Winery Heinrich Salzberg 2007
This wine is the "iron fist in a velvet glove?. The 2007 cuvée of 60 % Merlot, 30 % Blaufränkisch and 10 % Zweigelt comes from the Salzberg vineyard above the winery in Gols. After being harvested by hand, the grapes were fermented spontaneously with a maceration period of four to six weeks in wooden fermentation vats and then matured for 30 months in 500-liter barrels. The ruby to garnet red, almost impenetrable wine shows deep notes of dark berries, cherries and plums, paired with fine woods and spices, tobacco and ethereal notes. On the palate, the tannins are perfectly fused, the acidity is lively, the fruit wonderfully ripe and clear with fresh notes of orange zest. This is a highly complex but also very drinkable wine at its peak.
