Mount Mary Vineyard
The Yarra Valley, in southeast Australia, east of Melbourne. In the 1850s, Swiss settlers recognised the climatic parallels to Burgundy and Bordeaux and planted the first vines. The Mount Mary winery has been here since 1972.
A Cabernet blend from the Australian Yalla Valley, which is clearly modelled on the northern hemisphere in the Gironde. The very name "Quintet' refers to the grape variety mix, which combines five of the six red grape varieties typical of the Medoc: Cabernet Sauvignon (46%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (20%), Malbec (5%) and Petit Verdot (4%). The exact composition varies depending on the vintage, but Cabernet Sauvignon makes up around half of the blend, followed by Merlot (25 to 30 %) and Cabernet Franc (+/- 15 %). The result is one of the best Bordeaux blends in the southern hemisphere. It is clearly dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon - and yet each grape variety contributes to the complex overall picture: red and black fruits in abundance, some milk chocolate and liquorice. Now at its peak!
