Wittmann Winery
"Winemaking is always a generational contract." The Wittmanns and their ancestors have been making wine in Westhofen, Rheinhessen, for around 350 years and 15 generations. The winery has been certified organic since 1990.
The Brunnenhäuschen is located at an altitude of around 240 metres - which, despite its pure southern exposure, is the reason for a relatively late harvest due to the often cool winds. Deep and finesse-rich Rieslings grow here on clay marl and limestone, supplemented by a small proportion of "Terra Rossa', i.e. soil with a high iron oxide content. The 2022 vintage of the Grosses Gewächs is characterised by the triad of acidity grip (from the limestone soil!), the finely spiced minerality and the powerful and ripe fruit. A highly complex Riesling that James Suckling awarded 98 points. Stephan Reinhart praises the complexity, precision and refinement of the wine in particular and scores it 95. Those who favour elegance over opulence may even prefer it to the Morstein.
