Torbreck Vintners
Founded in 1994 by Dave Powell, the Torbreck winery in Australia's Barossa Valley is one of the continent's best-known. Above all, it stands for the preservation of a unique heritage of vines up to 170 years old. T
The Shiraz grapes for this wine come from a single, unique vineyard called Gnadenfrei, which was planted in Marananga in 1958 with the help of a selection of masses of old vines. The vines are located on the eastern side of a hill and are rooted in very dark, heavy clay on red, crumbly loam. The Shiraz was matured for 36 months in new French "Magic Casks' from Dominique Laurent. The deep purple-red Shiraz has a delicious aroma of plums, blackberries, mulberries and blueberries, paired with liquorice, cinnamon and espresso, chocolate, undergrowth, vanilla, peat and some eucalyptus. On the palate, it is incredibly rich and opulent, yet very precise, clear and almost refined in the expression of the silky tannins and the cool acidity and minerality. A wine for the next 50 years, but also for today.
