Carmenère San Leonardo Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2018
The single-varietal "Carmenère? from Tenuta San Leonardo should not be called a second wine - even if it is just below the Bordeaux blend in the portfolio of the Trentino winery. However, very old vines, 2 years of ageing in barriques and a maturation horizon of around 3 decades speak more for a side-by-side rather than a subordinate position. The Carmenère plots are the oldest of the entire estate - the first vines were planted at the end of the 19th century. For a long time, they were mistaken for Cabernet Franc. It was only a control planting that revealed their true identity. It is the component that gives all of the house's red wines their personality and the varietal Carmenère its great and highly independent class.
