Château Changyu Moser XV
When China's oldest wine brand Changyu, founded in 1892, joins forces with oenologist Laurenz Maria Moser V. from the 15th generation of the legendary Moser wine family, the result is bound to be something special.
"Purple Air comes from the East' is an example of the enormous progress that viticulture has made in China in recent years. Pure Cabernet Sauvignon from 12 to 18-year-old vines, matured for two years in 100% new French wood. Only 6,300 bottles of the showpiece of the Chinese/Austrian joint venture were filled; 2019 is only the second vintage ever after 2016. Impressive density paired with silky elegance characterise the winery's Grand Cru. Lots of ripe berry fruit - blackberry, cherry and cassis - with notes of cocoa, cedar, tobacco and vanilla. In a blind tasting in London, the "PACE' - beaten only by the Premier Grand Cru Lafite-Rothschild - clearly outperformed Cabernet icons such as Léoville Las Cases, Pontet Canet and Opus One.
