The Cabernet Sauvignon "Lafóa? was the starting point of Schreckbichl's success story – a legendary wine from a vineyard at 430 meters altitude with optimal sun exposure and sandy, gravelly moraine soils. After ten days of fermentation on the skins and a further 10 to 14 days of maceration, the young wine was transferred into new and used barriques for 18 months of aging. The "Lafóa? offers a deep, complex, solid bouquet of ripe blackcurrants and blackberries with hints of mint, black olive, smoke, nuts, oak, vanilla, and tobacco. It is a wine of great power and elegance, with ripe tannins, salty minerality, and a long, firm finish.

When 26 winegrowers from Schreckbichl near Eppan decided to found a co-operative in 1960, they were considered rebels, but when they began to focus strictly on quality viticulture under the leadership of Luis Raifer in the 1980s, they became pioneers.
