Wachau wine-growing region

The wines of the Wachau are known for their freshness, minerality and elegance. The white wines, especially Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, are characterised by their clear fruit aromas, fine acidity and structured texture. They are long-lasting and develop an impressive complexity over time.

The Wachau wine-growing region is located in the north-east of Austria along the Danube, west of Vienna.

The region stretches for around 33 kilometres and is one of the best-known and most prestigious wine-growing areas in the country.

The climatic conditions in the Wachau are characterised by a continental climate with cool winters and warm summers.

Domäne Wachau

Domäne Wachau, under the management of Roman Horvath and Heinz Frischengruber, is not only one of the most important wine estates in Austria, but also an association of over 40 winegrowers and winegrowing families.

Franz Hirtzberger Winery

The Hirtzberger family has been producing wines in Spitz in the Wachau for five generations. The Grand Cru from the Singerriedel, Hochrain and Honigvogl vineyards are among the best that Austrian viticulture has to offer.

Prager

Even the first documentary mention of the building that today belongs to the Prager Winery in Weissenkrichen refers to Riesling as a central grape variety of the Wachau - and that was in 1302: "am chling im ritzling gelegen, dem kloster michaelbeuern, gehörig, mit der schiffmühle in pertinenz ..."

Rudi Pichler Winery

The Pichler family has been growing grapes in Wösendorf in the Wachau since 1731. in 1997, Rudi Pichler (III) took over the helm of the family business, expanded the vineyards and built a new cellar in 2004, whose design presents itself "as a bridge between old building culture and functional commercial architecture".
