Château de Fonbel has been owned by the Vauthier family since 1971.
For the Vauthiers, this vineyard is the testing ground for their top wine estate Ausone and is therefore given very special attention. The 16 hectares of vineyards of the gem Château de Fonbel are located south of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Saint-Émilion and not far from Ausone.

Alain Vauthier and his daughter Pauline have been using the comparable vineyards for a long time to gain experience with sustainable viticulture and old Bordeaux grape varieties. In addition to Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Carmenère are also grown here. Organic fertilisers and homeopathic leaf preparations are also used. Vinification is always adapted to the vintage. The wine is vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, but also in classic wooden fermentation vats and then filled into classic barriques. The cuvée always contains around 85% Merlot, supplemented by the other grape varieties. The result is a subtle, elegant and fresh Saint-Émilion, which is still an insider tip despite the famous name of the owner family.
