Château Rieussec is one of the few "1er Grand Cru Classé" in the Sauternes appellation. Sémillion, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle are cultivated on 85 hectares. It is famous for its rich sweet wine, which is one of the best in the world. The vineyard is "on a par" with the only "1er Cru Classé Supérieur" Château Yquem in a double sense. On the one hand, Rieussec often matches the quality of the world's most famous sweet wine and, on the other, both are located on the highest elevation in Sauternes.

The château has a long and chequered history behind it. There used to be a Carmelite monastery there. The name of the second wine, „Carmes de Rieussec“, is a reminder of this. in 1984, the owner family of the famous Château Lafite Rothschild took over the management. The cellar was completely renovated and converted to modern winemaking. Later, the style was adapted for more freshness, tension and precision.
