The fact that Chianti has a long wine-growing tradition does not need to be repeated here. However, it is unusual for a winery to have more than 900 years of history. However, the more recent history of the Dievole (Dio vuole - God willing) winery begins with its reconstruction in 1979, during which a Renaissance villa was initially converted into a beautiful boutique hotel. After the estate was sold to the Argentinian multi-billionaire with Italian roots, Alejandro Pedro Bulgheroni, in 2013, all the other former stables, palazzi and outbuildings were also restored. In fact, it is an entire hamlet with 500 hectares of land and 16 vineyards totalling 150 hectares, all of which have been cultivated organically since 2013.
The Azienda Agricola Dievole is located twelve kilometres north-east of Siena, near Castelnuovo Berardenga and is part of the village of Vagliagli. The vineyards are located up to 450 metres above sea level in the hills of the Chianti Classico region and are characterised by Macigno (sandstone), Albarese (limestone-clay mixture), Sillano (silt and marl) and Galestro (slate). The 2017 vintage was the first certified vintage. Lorenzo Bernini is responsible for the organic cultivation, while Alberto Antonini, who has also advised Antinori and Frescobaldi, is responsible for the ageing of the wines. With this background - Bulgheroni also has four other wineries in Tuscany, as well as in Argentina, the USA and Uruguay - the cellar is of course state of the art with new, conical cement tanks and top-quality vats for ageing the wines. The entire range of Chianti Classico is produced here, including three single-vineyard Chianti and the Gran Selezione Chianti Classico "Vigna di Sessina".
