"The Mâcon wines of the Bret Brothers"

Jean-Philippe & Jean-Guillaume Bret

In just a few years, Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret have managed to become one of the leading wine estates in the Mâconnais almost out of nowhere thanks to their absolute commitment to quality and biodynamic methods.

In fact, La Soufrandière already existed before the brothers, as it was founded by Jules Bret in 1947. But it was largely unknown until Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret came on the scene in 2000. They converted their own vineyards directly to organic, then to biodynamic viticulture and gradually leased new areas with long-term contracts and also converted them. in 2001, they also founded a négociant trade, where they buy grapes from winegrower friends, all of whom are also certified organic. In many cases, they even co-manage the vineyards or give instructions on how to look after them. These wines trade under the name Bret-Brothers.

The wines are white wines from the Mâconnais with a proportion of 96% Chardonnay and 4% Aligoté. There is also Gamay, but under the Négociant label Bret Brothers. The size of the vineyard today is around 11.5 hectares around Vergisson, Pouilly-Vinzelles and Saint-Véran. The wines are matured either in perennial tonneaux or in concrete eggs. The meticulousness with which the brothers have been working for 20 years has made the vineyard one of the best and most highly rated in the entire Mâconnais. They have found their very own style, which emphasises lean structures and precision in this warm Burgundy region.
