Château Cissac Winery

"A Cru Bourgeois between tradition and modernity."

The Vialard family

Château Cissac, built on the foundations of a Roman villa, was acquired in 1895 by the ancestors of the current owners. The "Cru Bourgeois", whose vineyards border on Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe, is a powerful Médoc that is ready to drink after three to four years.

Jacques Mondon and completely renovated by one of his descendants, Louis Vialard, in the 1950s. Since then, wines of great power and elegance have been produced at Cissac Haut-Médoc. The composition of the grape varieties is typical of this part of the Médoc, which borders on the Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe appellations. In addition to 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, there is 20% Merlot. The estate's 5% Petit Verdot are the oldest vines of this variety in the Médoc and were planted in 1964. There is also one per cent Malbec, another historic grape variety of the region. Marie Vialard, who has managed the winery since 2000, ferments the wines in a mixture of classic wooden fermentation vats and stainless steel. In addition to the classic notes of cassis, menthol and tobacco, the wines are characterised by fine tannins, which make it possible to drink the Bordeaux after just three to four years of ageing, but also allow for a drinking age of over ten years and more.
