Château l'Hospitalet Winery

"Between land and sea."

Gérard Bertrand

With his 16 wine estates in Languedoc, former professional rugby player and enthusiastic winemaker Gérard Bertrand has become a true wine ambassador for his home region.

Like all Gérard Bertrand Group estates, Château l'Hospitalet, which was acquired in 2002, has been cultivated biodynamically in accordance with strict Demeter regulations for many years. The approximately 1,000-hectare estate with luxury hotel and spa is located in the La Clape nature park, a former island that has grown together with the mainland. 82 hectares are planted with vines.

The red "Grand Vin" is typically a cuvée of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. The individual varieties are vinified separately after the manual harvest. Mash fermentation lasts up to 25 days, after which the wine matures for up to 16 months in exclusively new barriques before the best batches are blended into the final wine.

The white Grand Vin "La Clape" combines Vermentino, Roussanne, Viognier and Bourboulenc. After separate harvesting and pressing, fermentation takes place in 100 % French oak barrels. Further ageing in barrels lasts up to eight months.
