Wine of the week
JUBILUM Pinot Noir No. 1 from the Josef Walz winery
The favourite place to drink Thomas Walz's Pinot Noir is probably "Im Schiff", the restaurant belonging to the winery, which has been in Heitersheim in Markgräflerland since 1712. But that's not for everyone. That's why the "Pinot Noir" is now available exclusively as Anniversary No. 1, based on French clones rooted in loess and loam with limestone marl.
The slightly transparent "Pinot Noir" smells of redcurrants and some barberry with notes of still crunchy cherries in combination with undergrowth, some forest soil, stone and graphite. With warmth, very subtle notes of raspberry and cinnamon are added. On the palate, this Burgundy is fresh and juicy, transparent and clear, with lively acidity and fine, perfectly balanced tannins. A Pinot with sophistication and wonderful lightness.
