Wittmann Winery
"Winemaking is always a generational contract." The Wittmanns and their ancestors have been making wine in Westhofen, Rheinhessen, for around 350 years and 15 generations. The winery has been certified organic since 1990.
The 2016 "Morstein" from Westhofen's oldest vineyard is the essence of Wittmann's part of the site. Philipp made a rigorous selection and only gave the best of the best to the Grosses Gewächs, while two thirds went into the local wine. This Riesling is correspondingly dense, high-class, intense and complex. While it was closed at the beginning, it now shows a hedonistic fullness in combination with a refined acidity structure that permeates everything very finely, a sensual texture and an outstanding, intense, chalky-salty length. It's no wonder that this year's wine has once again received top scores such as 96 points from ROBERT PARKER, 98 from JAMES SUCKLING and 18.5 from JANCIS ROBINSON.
