Wittmann Winery
"Winemaking is always a generational contract." The Wittmanns and their ancestors have been making wine in Westhofen, Rheinhessen, for around 350 years and 15 generations. The winery has been certified organic since 1990.
Wittmann's "Großes Gewächs" from the Westhofen vineyard, which is characterised by clay marl, limestone and limestone rock, is one of the great dry Rieslings of the vintage in 2013 - as was to be expected. It took its time to find its feet, but now it shines and will continue to do so in the coming years - especially from the magnum! The "Morstein" is complex and expressive with lots of ripe yellow stone fruit, slightly exotic notes, citrus fruit, some aniseed and herbs. There are also notes of crushed stone and petrichor. On the palate, the wine is mouth-filling with a powerful, distinctive acidity, minerality and a long finish.
