Penfolds Magill Estate Shiraz 2020
The "Magill Estate" Shiraz is normally matured in 90 to 100% new wood. In 2020, Peter Gago has deviated from this. The Shiraz, which comes from the 5.2-hectare vineyard at the Penfolds Magill Estate in the Adelaide Hills, founded in 1844, has only 30% new wood. The terroir is therefore much more evident in this young wine than in the earlier ones. And what is so typical also dominates in 2020: the scent of lavender. It is accompanied by lilac, cinnamon and Earl Grey, some vanilla and graphite, cedar and dark fruits such as cherry and blackberry. On the palate, the "Magill Estate" is elegant and fine with a lively, incisive acidity. This is an outstanding vintage, which rightly received 97 points from James Halliday and 98 points from Robert Parker.
