In the early 20th century, the Ockfener Bockstein produced one of the most expensive white wines in the world. Today's Goldkapsel-Auslese from Nik Weis comes from this old core area of what is now a much larger vineyard. And even if prices have fortunately democratised somewhat in the last 100 years, nothing has changed in the greatness of the wines from there. Grey slate, single-pole cultivation and spontaneous fermentation are the basis for a Riesling Auslese in a class of its own. Smoky, highly present slate minerality, dense, citrusy stone fruit, multi-faceted fine herbal spice, perfectly balanced acidity/sweetness interplay. Already fully ripe for enjoyment, but with potential for another four decades.
