After Auslese, wine law stipulates Beerenauslese as the next quality level. Some winegrowers on the Rhine, Moselle and Saar tend to differentiate more finely and have placed the gold capsule in between (sometimes even adding a "long gold capsule'). In the respective predicate level, this is something like an A with an asterisk. Like the 2017 Goldkapsel Auslese from Nik Weis. 40 to 60-year-old vines on Devonian slate deliver an intensely fruity (citrus, stone fruit) and highly concentrated Auslese with a distinct minerality. Suitable for ageing over the next two decades, but also delicious now with pear tart with blue cheese, for example.
