Paul Achs Blaufränkisch Altenberg 2020

Neusiedlersee, Austria, Red wine, Blaufränkisch
0.75 l

The 2020 Blaufränkisch "Altenberg? from Paul Achs is one of the great wines of the vintage. It comes from shell limestone soils with heavy clay in the topsoil in one of the warmest locations in Gols. After hand-picking and fermentation in steel tanks, the wine was aged for 20 months in used barriques and a further two months in 1,200 liter barrels. The deep garnet to violet-red wine combines notes of violets, sweet and sour cherries with blood oranges, blackberries, blueberries and herbs. On the palate, the shell limestone provides an exciting, fresh acidity that is accompanied by ripe, firm tannins. This is Blaufränkisch full of grace, freshness, fine fruity sweetness and outstanding length.

Paul Achs Winery

Since 1664, everything in the Achs family has revolved around viticulture. Since 1990, Paul Achs Junior has been running the winery on the northern shores of Lake Neusiedl and has expanded it from 12 to 25 hectares of cultivated land. The vineyards are located around Gols and are spread over 40 parcels of land whose very different potential is consistently exploited.
