Weingut Markowitsch M1 2019
The FALSTAFF awarded this great red wine a full 100 points. The cuvée of 75% Merlot and 25% Blaufränkisch is fascinatingly balanced, long, deep and complex, without ever becoming tiring. The vines are planted in the Ried Aubühl, the warmest site in the hills around Arbesthal with calcareous, slightly sandy loam soils. The wine, which was fermented spontaneously and matured for 24 months in barriques and 500-liter French oak barrels, combines notes of vanilla, oak, sea buckthorn and oranges with cassis, blueberries, cherries and blackberries, tobacco and cloves, cinnamon and nougat. The palate reveals an enormous richness of facets, a vibrant freshness and minerality, an elegant smoothness and perfect tannins.
