The "M1? is one of Austria's great red wine cuvées.It comes from a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Blaufränkisch.The vines grow in the Ried Aubühl, the warmest site in the hills around Arbesthal with calcareous, slightly sandy loam soils. The wine, which was fermented spontaneously and matured for 24 months in barriques and 500-liter French oak barrels, is reminiscent of plums, blackberries and cassis, tobacco and nougat, wood and orange zest. Notes of cinnamon and pepper, cloves and cedar are added on the palate. The ripeness, meatiness and juiciness are impressive, as are the freshness and minerality of this deep and long, complex but extremely lively wine.
