Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2021
The "little Grange' is often referred to as the "BIN 389' - not least because parts of its cuvée spend their maturation period in the very barrels in which the wine monument "Grange' previously matured. In contrast to this, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz are almost perfectly balanced (53% vs. 47%) - which gives the "BIN 389' a lot of structure in addition to the fruity richness of the Shiraz. In addition to the lush dark fruit, there are spicy notes (bay leaf, pink pepper, cardamom) and a fine liquorice aroma. On the palate, the "Baby Grange' is much more accessible than its big brother - juicy, with a lush red-black fruit bouquet and fine spice. Nevertheless, it also offers enormous ageing potential and a maturation horizon of several decades.
