Cantina Tramin is one of the most renowned co-operatives in South Tyrol and is inextricably linked to the development of high-quality white wines in the region. It was founded in 1898 in the wine village of Tramin on the South Tyrolean Wine Road.
Around Tramin, the combination of Alpine climate and Mediterranean influences creates ideal conditions for characterful, aromatic wines. The vineyards stretch around the village up to an altitude of 850 metres, on calcareous, loamy and often porphyry soils that give the wines structure, flavour and expression. The Tramin winery is particularly well-known for its aromatic grape varieties, above all Gewürztraminer, which is not only historically rooted here, but is also one of the most precise and elegant interpretations of this sophisticated variety.
Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also play an important role, with the style always focussing on clarity, balance and expression of origin. The "Nussbaumer" Gewürztraminer is particularly iconic, with its depth, exotic flavour and structural precision making it one of Italy's great white wines. The "Epokale" Gewürztraminer was the first Italian white wine to achieve 100 points in Parker's The Wine Advocate. In addition to the white wines, the great red classics are also produced: Lagrein, Kalterersee, but also the Merlots and Cabernets, which have long been indigenous. The work in the cellar is characterised by sensitive handling of the grapes, differentiated vinification depending on the location and grape variety and the targeted use of stainless steel and wood.
Without a doubt, the Tramin winery stands for a successful combination of tradition, innovation and a consistent focus on quality, for which the South Tyrolean co-operatives have become particularly well known. The close co-operation with the 160 members, the careful cultivation of the 270 hectares of vineyards and the clear commitment to origin make Cantina Tramin an important ambassador for South Tyrol.
