"Wine of kings, king of wines"

Gruaud Larose is a château with over 250 years of history. In the middle of the 18th century, a priest named Gruaud bought the vineyard. The striking tower that flanks the impressive château on the high plateau of St Julien Beychevelle also goes back to him. He bequeathed the estate to his nephew Sebastien Larose, who combined the two family names to give the château its current name.
The deuxième cru classé wine estate is somewhat overshadowed by its two rivals Château Leoville Las Cases and Château Ducru Beaucaillou. In the meantime, however, it does not need to hide from these two, as numerous measures have led to an enormous improvement in quality. In addition to the concentrated Las Cases and the eccentric Ducru, it is above all Gruaud Larose that epitomises the world-famous elegance and finesse of this appellation.
Today, the winery is run by Jean Merlaut, who now vinifies the wine purely organically. The diverse flora and fauna in the vineyard allows for sustainable and responsible cultivation.
It is worth noting that Château Gruaud has its own weather station.
