Château Langoa Barton
"200 years in the heart of St Julien."
The Barton family
The Barton family
In 1722, the Irish entrepreneur Thomas Barton moved to Bordeaux, where he founded a wine trading company shortly afterwards. Around 100 years later, his grandson Hugh Barton acquired the Langoa estate with around 20 hectares of vineyards and turned it into Château Langoa Barton. This was included in the Médoc classification as a 3ème Grand Cru Classé in 1855.
The estate, including the 2ème Cru Classé Château Leoville Barton, is now run by the tenth generation of the Barton family! The vineyards, which are orientated towards the Gironde, are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (54%), Merlot (35%) and Cabernet Franc (11%). The work in the vineyard is very minimalist and traditional, without weeding or herbicides.
Langoa Barton is always very original. The wine is very straightforward with noticeable but ripe tannins, present and animating acidity and clear, mostly black berry fruit. After a few years of ageing, an elegant and refined old-style St Julien develops with a strong personality.
