The von Neipperg family
In the 1970s, the von Neipperg family began acquiring properties in Bordeaux, including the Château d'Aiguilhe in the Castillon - Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. The château is originally a fortification dating back to the 13th century. Ruins bear witness to its long history.
Today, the estate covers 140 hectares, 90 of which are used for viticulture.
The vineyards on the plateau benefit from natural drainage and excellent sunshine thanks to their southern exposure.
The soils are clayey, calcareous, clayey and loamy. The rather poor upper soil layer is located on a limestone subsoil, which ensures excellent regulation of the water balance.
Typical of the region, Merlot also plays the main role at Château d'Aiguilhe. There is also 20% Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is 28 years.
After manual harvesting with double selection, fermentation takes place in thermo-regulated concrete and wooden tanks. Up to 50% new barrels are used for malolactic fermentation and ageing.
