Daniel and Georges Daou
"Daou" is essentially nothing less than synonymous with the highest quality, highly decorated Bordeaux-style red wines from Paso Roble, the wine-growing region between the West Coast metropolises of Los Angeles and San Francisco. The vineyards of the brothers Daniel and Georges Daou are located in the western hills of this area.
The classic Bordeaux grape varieties thrive here on calcareous clay soils in a temperate climate. The vines are densely planted and pulled up high. In this way, they provide shade for themselves and also allow a slow ripening process for perfect grapes.
With the Hoffman Mountain Ranch Winery, one of the first internationally renowned Paso Robles wineries was established in the 1960s. Originally from Lebanon, the Daou brothers take this tradition and have been consistently telling the story since 2007.
Daniel was one of the first to bring top quality Cabernet clones from Bordeaux and Napa to Paso Robles. Until then, the region was mainly characterised by Zinfandel and Rhône grape varieties. DAOU wines - especially the flagship "Soul of a Lion" - quickly received the highest awards and gave Paso Roble a new standing overall, as outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon was "only" known from Napa Valley.
Daniel Daou is always looking for optimisation. For example, there is a specially bred DAOU Mountain yeast that ensures better colour stabilisation and is now used by winemakers all over the world. The barrel production is also carried out elaborately according to very individual specifications.
