Domaine Faiveley Winery

"We want to combine power, finesse and elegance."

Erwan Faiveley

Domaine Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges has been owned by the same family for seven generations, since 1825. Today it is one of the largest and best houses in Burgundy. in 2005, Erwan Faiveley took over the management of the estate from his father Francois. in 2017, his sister Eve joined him in the management.

The first plots, acquired in the mid-19th century, are located on the best vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Over the years, the Domaine expanded to prestigious appellations such as Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos-de-Vougeot, Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet and Corton-Charlemagne in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune.

Today, Domaine Faiveley owns 12 hectares of Grands Crus and 27 hectares of Premiers Crus, including three monopoly sites: Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru "Clos des Issarts", Beaune Premier Cru "Clos de l'Ecu" and Corton Grand Cru "Clos des Cortons Faiveley". The average area of each appellation is just 1 hectare. Each wine is therefore produced in very limited quantities.

"My desire is to express the extraordinary mosaic of Burgundy's terroirs through each of our wines," says Erwan Faiveley. The path to achieving this goal involves painstaking and precise manual labour in the vineyard, careful pruning, defoliation and green harvesting. After the selective harvest, the grapes are sorted again and transported into the open, wooden fermentation tanks by gravity alone. In order to extract the colour, aromas and tannins in the best possible way, the mash is moved by hand every day. The alcoholic fermentation is followed by the gentlest possible pressing. The wines then mature for 12 to 18 months in pièces, the classic Burgundian barrique.
