The Gross winery is located in the middle of the charming hilly landscape of southern Styria, on the slopes of the Ried Nussberg. Martina and Johannes Gross are the sixth generation to run the renowned traditional winery. They endeavour to express the special characteristics of the vineyard, grape variety and vintage in the best possible way. Trusting in the favour of nature.

Gross wines come exclusively from the estate's own, self-tended vineyards. Martina and Johannes are particularly known for their long matured Rieden wines. They completely dispense with accelerating cellar techniques and give their Rieden wines at least four years to "grow up" at their own pace. Patience that you can taste. This makes Weingut Gross a pioneer among Austrian white wine estates.

The Gross family vineyards are situated between 300 and 500 metres above sea level and are rooted in a wide variety of soils. The diverse spectrum ranges from Opok (lime marl) to Leithakalk to sand and gravel. Slopes of up to 85 percent, i.e. 38 degrees, make mechanical work possible only to a very limited extent.

The winery also relies on manual labour to achieve the best possible quality in the vineyard. Martina and Johannes are convinced that vineyard care must be done in harmony with nature. Therefore, they do not use herbicides (chemical weed killers), insecticides (chemical insecticides) or botryticides, and they use home-made compost as fertiliser. This conviction, which has been lived for a long time, will be reflected on the bottles with organic certification from the 2025 vintage.
