Marques de Murrieta

"Renewing yourself and keeping your roots."

Don Luciano Murrieta

The beginning of the Marqués de Murrieta winery near Logroño is also the origin of the Rioja growing region. In 1852, it was Don Luciano Murrieta who produced the first Rioja here using the techniques he had learned in Bordeaux. This first vintage was exported to Mexico and Cuba. Since 1983, the winery has been run by the Cebrián-Sagarriga family.

The Castillo Ygay headquarters is considered one of the oldest and structurally most exciting industrial buildings in Europe. Since 2019, it has also functioned as a museum. Right next to it, a new complex with state-of-the-art technology and avant-garde architecture opened its doors in 2021.

The vines grow not far from the Castillo in a vineyard of 300 hectares in the southern Rioja Alta. Here, the team led by María Vargas "achieves wines of enormous personality with the help of a privileged climate and the consistent care of the vineyard".
