Grenache grape variety

Grenache is a red grape variety that is mainly grown in southern France and Spain (where it is known as "Garnacha").
The wines are typically medium to full-bodied, with low tannins and high acidity.
Grenache wines have flavours of red fruits such as strawberry and raspberry, complemented by spice, leather and earthy notes.
The grape is often blended with other grape varieties such as Syrah and Mourvèdre to add complexity and structure, as in the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
Grenache pairs well with a variety of dishes, from grilled meats and poultry to Mediterranean and Oriental dishes.
The wines can be drunk young, but also have a certain ageing potential, especially with careful vinification and ageing.
Grenache offers a fruity and accessible alternative to stronger red wines and demonstrates the diversity of southern French and Spanish wines.
