The 2018 top Cabernet from Omina Romana in Lazio, which comes from a special terroir facing the nearby sea, is a very good example of this. Volcanic soils, a location predestined for viticulture due to its topology and uncompromising quality standards in the vineyard and cellar work produce an exemplary premium-class Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep, almost abysmal ruby red in colour, a highly elegant nose of cassis, cedar wood, smoky notes and a hint of pepper and herbs, then full and emphatic on the palate, yet soft and elegant like cashmere from Brioni.

Viticulture has existed in the Latium region for around 2500 years. The Omina Romana winery, founded by Anton and Katharina Börner, has been in existence since 2007. With the clear goal of producing only top-quality wines, the founders chose an area near Velletri, 40 kilometres southeast of Rome.
