Family winery Tement Grassnitzberg Riff Sauvignon Blanc Magnum 2017
The "Grassnitzberg' is the Tements' second large Sauvignon Blanc vineyard alongside the "Zieregg'. The wines here are usually somewhat greener, but with a lot of finesse. And more gooseberry than tropical-fruity. This is not a bad thing, but above all a question of which Sauvignon style you prefer. Grassnitzberg Riff is a vineyard (i.e. a sub-vineyard) with limestone soil; it was the estate's very first vineyard, planted by Josef Tement in the 1950s. The vines there are correspondingly old - which has a clear influence on the complexity and depth of the wine produced here. The aforementioned gooseberry is joined by pineapple and blossom honey, honeydew melon and elderflower. It all comes across as very elegant, simultaneously melting and with a smoky minerality.
