Penfolds Magill Estate Shiraz 2008
No other Penfolds wine is as strongly associated with the beginnings of this legendary winery as the Magill Estate Shiraz. It comes from the single vineyard Magill on the original Penfolds estate, which was founded in 1844 in the eastern suburbs of Adelaide. The fruit is harvested directly from the Magill Estate, fermented and matured for 13 months in French and American oak. The 2008 "Magill Estate" is now in a perfect drinking window. Aromatically, the wine is fresh, juicy and lively with a complex interplay of plums, blackberries and cassis with cinnamon, vanilla, oak, some leather and tobacco. On the palate, the Shiraz offers luscious fruit, silky tannins and a successful balance of acidity.
