Probably the most sought-after second wine in the world is stylistically very close to its great role model. Carruades is actually the name of what is probably Lafite Rothschild's best parcel, but here it merely serves as the namesake for the second wine. In 2020, it clearly benefits from the high quality of all the grapes and comes with a similarly powerful aroma of cassis, tobacco and cedar wood as the 1er Grand Cru Classé. Supported by finely polished but firm tannins, it promises an earlier drinking maturity due to the slightly higher Merlot content.

Some may also have picked up that a bottle from the estate of Thomas Jefferson fetched a price of 160,000 dollars at an auction in 1985.
