The 2021 vintage from the Königsbacher Idig fully lives up to its role as the Riesling flagship of the A. Christmann fully lives up to it. Fine, bright fruit hovers calmly over an elegant skeleton of mineral notes. Limestone and chalk, hints of flint, plus plenty of acidity grip. Despite the cool noblesse that characterises the 2021, you can still sense the energy and tension inherent in this great wine. The subtle phenolic notes in particular play a part in this, lending the wine seriousness and gravitas. The Christmann Winery is located in the Palatinate region of Mittelhaardt, one of the most important wine-growing landscapes in Germany. The family has owned parcels of land in the region since the end of the 18th century, and today Steffen and daughter Sophie run the business together.
