Castello di Ama
About 20 kilometres northeast of Siena is this small settlement, which has pre-Roman roots. The Etruscans already settled here. Today's fort was built in the early 1770s.
The Tuscan red grape variety par excellence, Sangiovese, with a good dash of Merlot - this is a far cry from tradition, but the result is all the more impressive. As a single-vineyard Chianti "La Casuccia', this vinological bravura combines enormous density and richness with the elegant sensuality of perfectly ripened Sangiovese grapes. The 2020 vintage is exemplary proof of how perfectly this concept works. Intense plum and blackberry fruit surrounded by roasted and herbal notes merge into a spicy, intense whole. Underneath this are acidity and tannins that give this powerhouse enormous depth. An iconic Chianti!
