Winery Dönnhoff Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl Riesling Kabinett 2020

Nahe, Germany, White wine, Riesling
0.75 l

"Even the Nahe can make Kabi!' seems to shout from the glass when you first smell it. And indeed, with the 2020 Krötenpfuhl, Dönnhoff, otherwise famed for his dry Grand Cru wines, has produced an exemplary Kabinett. It doesn't always have to be Mosel. The Nahe has also mastered the finely elegant interplay of sweetness and acidity. A good water supply - as the name of the site suggests - and a slate soil interspersed with quartzite gravel characterise the steep slope, which not only produces an outstanding Großes Gewächs, but also this Kabinett, which is characterised by citrusy fruit notes and a fine herbal spiciness. Riesling par excellence with a pleasingly light 9% alcohol.

Dönnhoff Winery

The Dönnhoff wine estate in Oberhausen on the Nahe has been in existence for over 250 years. Today it is run by Cornelius Dönnhoff, the fourth generation of the family to do so. Kreuznacher Kahlenberg, Roxheimer Höllenpfad, Krötenötenpfuhl or Dellchen. Dönnhoff has ten large vineyards that are among the best in the region - and here, on volcanic and slate rock, he produces primarily Rieslings of international renown.
