Domaine Faiveley Meursault Charmes 1er Cru blanc 2022
If there is such a thing as an epicentre for the white Burgundies of the Côte de Beaune, then it is undoubtedly Meursault. Its Premier Cru climat, "Charmes', lies on the western edge of the village; it is one of the largest and best-known, situated directly on the border with Puligny-Montrachet. The Chardonnay grape benefits there from an exceptional terroir with the potential to produce exceptionally well-rounded and harmonious wines. The precise vinification by Domaine Faiveley – with ageing for around 17 months in 40 to 50 per cent new oak – realises this potential to the full: plenty of juicy fruit, along with floral finesse and subtle oak notes, develop a complex interplay of aromas on the nose, whilst on the palate minerality and freshness merge into an intense and energetic whole.
