Domaine Faiveley Corton-Charlemagne 2023
Chalky marl forms the subsoil for the vines, the oldest of which were planted as far back as 1933 – one of the reasons for the complex nose and the density on the palate of this Grand Cru Chardonnay. 2023 was a mild year, initially dry but then blessed with almost ideal rainfall. It was rounded off by a spell of hot weather at harvest time. Perfect conditions, then, for a year that was highly gratifying in terms of both quality and quantity. On the nose, this 2023 vintage presents a harmoniously balanced blend of woody notes, ripe yellow fruit and floral tones. It is aromatically intense and long-lasting without being overpowering, and is already very accessible and highly exciting – though it will surely only fully reveal its true greatness in the years to come.
