Bruce Anderson also highlights its silkiness and elegance – he notes vanilla, liquorice and spices from the 18-month ageing in barriques (60% first-fill), along with red cherry and strawberry fruit enveloped in rose petals. He is particularly impressed by the finish, which brilliantly brings together the multi-layered flavour impressions of this Grand Cru. There's no question about it: the "en Orveaux' is a Grand Cru for lovers of more elegant and subtle Pinots. The relative barrenness of the soil – a thin layer of earth over plenty of rock – ensures plenty of minerality and finesse without an overly heavy presence.
