Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre 2023
Flat gravel and clay soil over hard limestone forms the subsoil for this monopole vineyard, situated directly behind the family estate in the centre of Meursault. It is home to deep-rooted Chardonnay vines up to 70 years old. Technically, the Clos de la Barre is "merely' a Village wine. However, its structure and depth are on a par with those of a Premier Cru. The wine presents a seductive bouquet of pear, peach, apple blossom, beeswax and toasted almond. On the palate, its richness of extract and immense mineral tension are particularly striking – one almost feels as though one can hear it buzzing in the glass, such is its energy. The finish is exceptionally long; we particularly liked the subtle peppery note.
