Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Perrières 2023
At the southern end of Meursault, right on the border with Puligny-Montrachet, lies Perrières, the primus inter pares amongst the Meursault crus. Here, on a thin layer of calcareous marl over a solid limestone subsoil, small-berried grapes of outstanding quality grow, their aroma all the more concentrated for it. No wonder the prospect of upgrading this vineyard to Grand Cru status is a recurring topic of discussion. The 2023 vintage certainly stands up to that standard. Citrus, white flowers, pear and green apple, along with almond and the scent of fresh bread, make up the complex bouquet. Unmistakably Perrières: the slight reduction and a hint of flint. On the palate, it is taut and highly precise, with plenty of extract, pronounced acidity and a long, mineral finish. Brilliant!
