Clos Rougeard Saumur Champigny Les Poyeux 2020
Like "Le Bourg,? "Les Poyeux? is also located in Chacé?but at over two hectares, it is more than twice as large. The Cabernet Franc vines, which grow here on sandy-clay soil over a limestone subsoil, are between 40 and 70 years old. In typical Rougeard style, the wine is aged for 18 to 24 months in used barriques, some of which were purchased from the Bordeaux region. In 2020, "Les Poyeux? once again demonstrates its character: it is more approachable earlier than its neighbor, Le Bourg. Yet the varietal character is evident here as well: cherry and raspberry fruit, a hint of violet, pepper, and other spicy notes. The texture is velvety, with silky, fine tannins; the finish is long and exceptionally harmonious.
